MASON CITY – A Mason City man was jailed on a charge of drunk driving after he struck a parked vehicle on a residential street Friday evening.
Police were called to the intersection of 15th Street SE and Virginia Avenue around 9 PM Friday evening, February 20, 2015 after a two-car collision.
Thomas Eugene Ethington, age 62, was driving in the 700 block of 15th Street SE when he allegedly struck a Dodge Ram pickup truck owned by Brent Hanson of Mason City. Ethington’s car sustained major damage while Hanson’s pickup – which he just bought 3 weeks ago – suffered severe damage, he said.
“The box is damage(d) and he broke the rear end. Roughly $8,000 (in damages) if not more,” Hanson told NIT.
Ethington was apparently not injured in the collision, but was later arrested on a charge of first offense operating while intoxicated and taken to the county jail. He was soon released, pending a court date.
He must have hit pretty hard to flip the car like that.
Just think, he’s probably been drinking and driving for 40 years, and finally got caught. Luckily he didn’t kill anyone. Will these scoff laws ever learn.
