MASON CITY – The Mason City Police and Fire Department responded to an alarm for a house fire at 815 8th St. S.E. at 11:44 pm called in by owner.
The home is owned by Jeff & Chelsy King.
Fire fighters entered the house and found fire in the second floor bedroom. There was fire damage to the second floor and smoke damage thought the house.
The fire started in the bedroom on the second floor. The cause of the fire was overheated electrical extension cord. Two space heaters were plugged in to the electrical extension cord and overheated the cord, which started contents of the room on fire.
All occupants exited the house safely and called fire department from outside the house.
Firefighters remained on scene until 2:10 am.
This can happen so easily with a older home. If you have ever touched the cord on one of those heaters after they have run awhile you would know what I mean.
