
MASON CITY – Four women accused of theft, apparently from the Chicago area, fled the Wal-Mart Super Center in Mason City this morning in a brand new Chevy Tahoe and were caught in a cornfield.
At about 4:50 AM Monday morning, Mason City police were called to the Wal-Mart Super Center, 4151 4th Street SW, by employees who reported a theft. Four woman had already boarded a 2015 Chevy Tahoe with Arkansas license plates and fled the scene. Police broadcast the vehicle description to other law enforcement agencies, and a Clear Lake police officer stopped the suspect vehicle just east of the Mason city Airport. However, the driver of the vehicle soon took off and proceeded towhead south on Interstate 35. Clear Lake police, Iowa State Patrol, Wright county deputies and and Hamilton county deputies all pursued until the 147 mile marker. The vehicle at that point went into a cornfield and the suspects fled into a cornfield on foot. Law enforcement officers pursued and arrested all four subjects, who were taken back to Cerro Gordo county and questioned. Police said that all four were uncooperative and gave various names and dates of birth. After fingerprints were taken, Iowa Department of Criminal Justice was able to identify all four subjects.
