Waterloo cops chase offender found with semi-auto handgun

WATERLOO – Police in Waterloo apprehended a man with a gun for the second time this year.

On Friday October 10, 2014 Officers with the Violent Crime Apprehension Team initiated a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Columbia St. reference an ongoing investigation and multiple violations. Upon initiating the traffic stop two suspects fled on foot. One of the suspects was taken into custody during the foot pursuit and he was found in possession of a .40 caliber semi-auto handgun. The handgun was also found to be stolen from a previous burglary in Waterloo. The suspect was identified as twenty-one-year-old Kalon Deon Bruce of Waterloo. Two of the other subjects located in the vehicle were identified as twenty-four-year-old Lawrence Cottrell Smith of Waterloo and twenty-four-year-old Charles Robert Tims of Waterloo.

Officers with the VCAT unit arrested Bruce on March 9th of this year with another handgun during a vehicle pursuit. During that incident Bruce was charged with carrying weapons and interference with official acts involving a firearm. On this date, Bruce was booked into the Black Hawk County Jail on a Class D felony for interference with official acts involving a firearm, carrying weapons and possession of stolen property (theft 4th degree).
