DES MOINES – A former Iowa legislator and former top aide for Michele Bachmann’s failed presidential bid had his home searched last month by the FBI.

According to the Des Moines Register and other media outlets, the FBI obtained a search warrant for the home of former Republican state Sen. Kent Sorenson and left with computers and other materials. The investigation centers around “presidential campaign politics” and that Sorenson may have stolen an email list for Bachmann.

Sorenson, of Milo, Iowa, describes himself on his Twitter page as “Follower of Christ, Husband, Father, Senator, Entrepreneur, Realtor, Conservative, Iowan, and Proud American!”  He resigned from the Iowa Senate this past October after being accused of breaking ethics rules for taking payments from a political action committee tied to Bachmann.  He left Bachmann’s presidential campaign in 2012 right before the all-important Iowa caucus and declared himself a Ron Paul backer.  He had served in the Iowa Senate since 2008.

Sorenson later called the accusations and investigation into the payments from the PAC a “honest, straight-up political witch hunt.”  He could face felony charges, according to published reports.

While in office, Sorensen publicly endorsed a move by the state of Iowa to re-intruduce the death penalty, which was abolished in Iowa in 1965.
