Forest City, Iowa – Waldorf College welcomes two former Iowa State University professors to the Recital Hall on Monday, April 8, for a special music presentation: “Shouts of Joy! A Presentation of New Hymns.”

Lynn Zeigler, the recently retired Iowa State organist and professor emeritus of music, and Charles Kniker, professor emeritus of education and a former seminary president, will be at Waldorf to present some of the more than 35 hymns they have been collaborating on since 2009.

Their collection includes hymns for seasons in the liturgical year, responses for a worship service, and songs for special holidays like Thanksgiving, as well as hymns for communion, wedding, and funeral services.

“It’s a special experience because we’ll get to try new hymns with the people that actually composed them,” said Nancy Farndale, event organizer and Waldorf’s composer-in-residence.  “We’ll get to learn what they were thinking and about the writing process. The audience can experience the composers’ excitement about the hymns and appreciate and respect everything that goes into writing the pieces.”

Waldorf vocal and instrumental music students will participate in the performance, and audience members are invited to sing along as well. There will be a question and answer session to learn more about the duo’s creations after the performance.

This free program starts at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public. The American Guild of Organists and Waldorf College are co-hosting the event.
