MASON CITY – A man spotted by police as noticeably drunk in the Cultural Crescent has pled guilty to public intoxication, days after he escaped jail in a felony drug case.
Joel Willhelm Koehler, age 22 of Mason City, was at the 000 block of West State Street on September 7 at 2:18 AM when he was approached by police officers due to his suspicious demeanor. Police ascertained that Koehler was drunk, and arrested him.
Koehler pled guilty on September 8 and was assessed $262.50 in fines and court costs.
Days earlier, on August 21, Koehler was given a deferred judgement on a felony D drug charge in Story county. A class “D” felony is punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of $750 to $7,500. However, Koehler was put on 3 years probation and ordered to pay $1,075.00 in fines and court costs. On September 6, he was notified that he is past due on paying that balance.
