On the other hand, if you are itching to see some of the bloated buffoons at City Hall get put on the hot seat, then enjoy this six minute clip made from an impromptu Q and A session held following the September 2, 2014 Mason City council meeting.

The deep throaters in city hall screw with those they do not like and leave others alone who are both involved with the same issues.

While I am amused by the video, and saddened by Hickey’s arrogance in not dealing with his garage situation, I do want to point out that you are trying to compare apples to cabbages. While Hickey may be in violation of zoning ordinances, his garages are not a health hazard to the community. I understand that the volunteers who tried to help Mr. Flinchum out needed to wear gloves and masks for health/safety reasons.

This is great elected people not willing to stand up and defend their actions. If your not willing to explain yourself you must have some dirty things to hide. Mayor, Council do an interview with Matt and answer the tough questions or resign.

Just learned that my last two attempts to post were deleted because of a little profanity. I’m going to try to refrain from cussing this time, but it’s going to be difficult.
I feel really bad that I wasn’t paying attention when this story came about, however, I find it hard to believe that nothing can be done.
Do you, this man’s neighbors, feel good about yourselves now? Did you ever offer to help or did you just go whine/complain?
Will he get ANYTHING out of this besides homelessness?

Has he not paid for that house? Is he not current on his property taxes?
This man served his country & now he’s being served a heaping helping of crap! You should be ashamed of yourselves. As for you, Hickey, I hope your precious mancave gets struck by lightning & burns to the flippin’ ground. What happened to you that made you think you deserve more/better than this man. There were options here, but you baxters just LIKE being baxters, don’t you? #@%&!%*

Amanda, I agree with you. I think the community could have done more to help him clean up the property. Phil will get the money for the sale of the land after the house is tore down. I do not believe Phil will be homeless as he has not lived in this house for some time. He has just been using this house for storage. This house has not had running water or electricity for quite some time as well. That is the way I understand it anyway. I think the city should give him more time too.

Hoarding is a disease. Tearing down this house is the best thing that can be done for this man. He needs treatment. Sure, political points can be made about hypocrisy and double standards, but specifically, politics aside, it’s a disease the community is dealing with. It’s a safety issue, and lowers the quality of life for everyone, when someone decides to turn an old crappy house into a personal junkyard storage bin. Don’t stop: tear more down. Force people to get better.

@Philly-I agree with your comments here. Why should all of the neighbors be punished because the guy is sick. It is a residential neighborhood, not a warehouse district. I do think the city could have handled it a little differently though.

What, exactly, will it take to save this gentleman’s home? How much time does he have as of now?

@Amanda-The way I understand it the decision has already been made. The house will be torn down I believe. Other than maybe purchasing the house I don’t think anything else will help, and at this point I am not sure you can do that either.

to open minds all about town? The sixties and seventies people would have made it known how uncool they all are.

YET these are the very people who ARE ON THEIR SIDE and SUPPORT. I do not understand what happened to to you and you know who you are. Has to be about money, nothing else could have changed you. In other words you got fake.

Too bad

Oh no that’s not why he talks with Cheryl. He wants to look good in some manner to the media or whoever is patrolling his pathetic LACK of decency, moral, do the right thing in this life kind of quasi human he is. He could care less about her.

Come on kids and Hickey when is the last time you watched a movie and were FOR these kind of people? Yes Hickey you are that kind of people. We all love to see the good guys take ’em down. So why doesn’t that apply here?

To open minds all…

He thinks he can play baseball too!

The guys and i have tried to think over the years how to tell him.

Yes he is a bully. I remember those days when it started. Still the same.

Recall him wanting to FIGHT another council person at the meeting? HA!

A MAN? Never.

Yeah. “Moobs and no hair.” Travis is the bully in this story. Uh huh.

I detest bullies. Peculiar how they seem to end up in control around here.

It is believable. I enjoy how they ALL waddle cuz that can’t run!

Let them live with their conscience.

I am in amazement of all the people I know who think this is right.

Come on wimps at least talk to media while your screwing an old vet behind the scenes.

Oh and Hickey, I have a degree in sociology/psych, a person who rocks back and forth while being addressed is guilty of something and can’t rationalize the pressure of being addressed there fore fights it with movement.

Matt-Strange how they refuse to talk to you. In my experience it means they either have something to hide, or do not have any answers. Either way, the voters of Mason City should be so proud of what they have elected when all they had to do was get off their butts and vote.

This is good stuff! Crooked cop protects crooked city hall officials. Go figure folks!

explain what you mean?

Pointing out double standards and hypocrisy is entirely legitimate. Yes, it makes perfect sense: If two standalone garages are illegal in the city of Mason City or Cerro Gordo County, and he was ordered to connect them and he has failed to comply, Mr. Hickey has NO BUSINESS ordering someone else to comply in turn.

The king of hypocrisy has spoken. We may all go back to our lives now and await his next gem he spews from his mother’s house regarding self sufficiency…

Steps are being taken to illuminate and construct the pathway to liberation. You’re one of the miserable souls stuck in the slave pit, and bitter about your situation…understandable. Don’t hate the Liberator: learn from him. Have a nice sunny day Mr. Anonymous. 🙂
