Forest City, Iowa – Waldorf College’s fall Scholarship Day resulted in six students receiving scholarships and eight students receiving a semester of free books. Fourteen students participated from five different states, resulting in an estimated $119,000 being awarded over four years.
“Waldorf College is always looking for students with a commitment to academics. I’m confident these students will be great assets to our college,” Director of Admissions Scott Pitcher said.
Scholarship Day rewards students who have excelled academically in their high school career. Candidates interview with judges and write an on-site essay, after which one student is awarded a full tuition scholarship. Five more top finishers receive $2,000 scholarships. All other participants receive their first semester’s textbooks at no cost.
“Waldorf is delighted to recognize the academic achievement of these high school students,” said Dr. Robert Alsop, president of the college. “The aptitude and ability they develop in high school will not only contribute to their success in college, but will also set an example for the Waldorf student body.”
Abbie Wells of Lake View, Iowa was awarded the full tuition scholarship. Recipients of the $2,000 scholarshipsincluded Alexa Bainbridge of Collins, Iowa, Hallie Erdahl of Lake Mills, Iowa, Amanda Groll of Claremont, Minn., Jacob Hartvigsen of Audubon, Iowa, and Nate Johnson of Eagan, Minn.
In addition to the financial opportunity for high school students, Scholarship Day also serves as a platform for Waldorf faculty and staff to build relationships with incoming freshmen prior to their enrollment.
This is the first scholarship event of the academic year at Waldorf College. Two more events, one in January and another in April, will offer additional opportunities for high school seniors to compete.
