Accused garage snooper skips trial, turns self in

MASON CITY – A Mason City man accused of snooping around people’s garages and then lying to police about his identity is now in jail after skipping his trial.

Aaron Max Biddick, age 41, was due in court for a non-jury trial on the morning of July 10th, but did not appear. A warrant was promptly issued for his arrest by Judge Patrick Byrne.  Biddick turned himself in on July 13 to officers at the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

Biddick had been released on his own recognizance to await his trial after an incident on the afternoon of May 27, 2014 which landed him in jail. Mason City police were called that day to investigate a report of a man who turned out to be Biddick, on a bike who appeared to be intoxicated, looking into people’s garages at the 000 block of 13th Street NE. When police arrived there, Biddick tried to outrun officers on his bike. Police caught him, and said that he provided false information upon his capture, due to an outstanding arrest warrant on a drug charge.

Biddick is now being held on $1,000 cash-only bond.

Biddick was found guilty last August of lying to police as he was caught with illegal drugs.  He was assessed $429.00 in fines and court fees but hasn’t made a payment yet.  On another drug charge, Biddick had been wanted since November of 2013 before finally being caught while snooping the garages on May 27th.
