ALGONA — Tammy Lynn Hanson, 55, of Algona, died Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Kossuth Regional Health Center, leaving behind a family she cherished and a community where she spent more than three decades caring for others.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 14, at Grace Church, 1923 E. McGregor Street in Algona. Visitation was held Thursday evening at Lentz Funeral Home. Tammy will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery in Algona. The funeral service will also be livestreamed through Lentz Funeral Home.
Tammy was born October 21, 1970, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to David and Jean Glick Huizenga. Her family moved to Algona when she was a young child, and she later graduated from Algona High School with the Class of 1990.
On August 10, 1991, Tammy married Brian Hanson in Algona. Together they raised daughter Amber and son David, and family remained at the center of Tammy’s life. She later delighted in becoming “Nana” to grandchildren Aurora, Hudson and Beckett.
Tammy devoted much of her working life to caring for others. She worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Good Samaritan Society in Algona for 31 years. Her work became far more than a job, as she developed close relationships with residents and coworkers and took great pride in being someone people could depend upon.
Those closest to Tammy knew her as energetic, sociable and hardworking, a woman who could turn strangers into friends and bring life to a gathering. She enjoyed coffee, music, singing and dancing, and family memories describe a woman with an unmistakable personality who remained deeply devoted to the people around her.
Tammy is survived by her husband, Brian Hanson; daughter Amber Hanson; son David Hanson and Abby Olesen; grandchildren Aurora, Hudson and Beckett; her mother, Jean Huizenga; sister Mary and Kirk Johnson; mother-in-law Mary Hanson; brother-in-law Al Hanson; sisters-in-law Donya Hanson and Chris and Vance Bone; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Huizenga; grandparents Frank and Jean Huizenga and Clarence and Mary Glick; father-in-law Ed Hanson; and other extended family members.
