MASON CITY – A convicted felon, previously accused of violent crimes such as riot and criminal felony gang activity remains jailed after an alleged domestic assault last week.
Mason City police said that around midnight on July 6th, a caller reported receiving a message that an individual had been assaulted and needed assistance at 204 8th Street SW. A Mason City police officer located the victim and a suspect, 26-year-old Tony Joe Jones, who was arrested for second offense domestic abuse assault and taken to jail. On July 11th, Jones plead not guilty, and a July 21st arraignment was scheduled. He remains jailed on bond.
Jones has been convicted of escape of a felon in 2007 and in 2009 he was accused of assault and false imprisonment. He still owes $702.25 and $1,214.06 in fines and court costs, respectively, in those two cases, in which he took plea deals. He has also been accused of riot, criminal gang participation and felony burglary back in 2006. He took another plea deal, in which he went to Beje Clark residential facility and was assessed $3,136.56 in fines and court costs, of which he has paid $90.00.
