MASON CITY – A suspect was allegedly drunk when he fled the scene of a recent auto collision on Mason City’s North End neighborhood.
Mason City police records show that their officers responded to a hit and run collision on February 18, 2024. At 11:01 PM that night, the MCPD received a call for service for a hit and run accident at the intersection of 4th Street NW and North Jefferson Avenue. Two minutes later, their records also show that officers responded to a call for service for a reckless driver nearby at North Adams Avenue and 6th Street NW.
After an investigation, police tracked down and arrested a driver, 23-year-old Reuben Weilbacher (pictured at top in jail photo). He was booked into the Cerro Gordo county jail on the following charges brought by Mason City police:
321.256 – FAIL TO OBEY TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE
321.284 – Open Container — Driver (21 Years Old or Older)
321.263 – LEAVE SCENE OF ACCIDENT – FAIL TO
321.98(1)(a) – Operation without registration card or plate
321.20B – FAILURE TO PROVIDE PROOF OF FINANCIAL
321.174(1) – No Valid Drivers License
321J.2(2)(a) – OWI — 1st Offense
Weilbacher was soon released on his own recognizance. He now faces a preliminary hearing on the afternoon of March 8.
