Iowa to participate in “Click It or Ticket” campaign

seat-beltDES MOINES – The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau is reminding the motoring public during May 19 – June 1, Iowa law enforcement agencies will be participating in the National “Click or Ticket” campaign. In an attempt to save lives and reduce serious injury crashes, local, county and state enforcement officers will be out in force making sure everyone is buckled up.

Sergeant Scott Bright, Public Information Officer for the Iowa State Patrol, advises, “The two seconds it takes to buckle up increases your odds by nearly 50% of surviving a crash. There is nothing so simple or easy that can make such a life saving difference. During 2013, there were 317 fatalities in Iowa, a record low but still too many needless deaths. We are continually looking for ways to make a difference,” says Noble.

Last year, during the Memorial Day holiday, Iowa had 3 traffic fatalities, two of which were alcohol related. During the sTEP enforcement wave, there were 31,480 total traffic violations, including 12,450 speed, 2630 seat belt and 530 OWI stops.

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau continues to stress to the motoring public the importance of buckling up, slowing down and the need to drive sober to increase the odds of preventing or at least surviving a crash. Buckle up, be safe and enjoy your Memorial Day holiday. The next sTEP enforcement event will be July 1st – 7th.

Seat belts – good idea, but a law?! How about standing on the top step of a ladder? How about eating junk food? How about smoking? How about helmets? Maybe I should shut-up. I’m just giving lawmakers more ideas.

“Click it or Ticket” is Communism, pure and simple. We have had a “form of government” change.

For those of you that can remember Russia’s head man in the 60’s Dictator Nikita Khrushchev said, “America will be taken over with out firing a shot.”

It’s here folks, READ THIS ARTICLE (and weep) in today’s The Daily Caller.

http://dailycaller.com/2014/05/21/dem-congressman-weve-proved-that-communism-works/

It’s moronic how flawed these laws are. Example: children must be buckled in car restraint seat, but windows can be tinted completely black all around car except passenger and driver windows. So how are officers to know if toddlers are buckled in back seats? Children should be required to be buckled everywhere in a car, but for adults it should remain their choice.

And speaking of moronic, why are some churches allowed to serve alcoholic communion to minors under the assumption it is “the blood of Christ”, yet Rastafarians aren’t allowed to use Cannabis in their practice? Talk about mass public health issue…sharing communion from the same spoon and chalice? Anyone from Mohawk square want to check into that?

Should we just kiss the priest’s / governor’s hand and shut up? We don’t know where that hand’s been, do we?

I’m not a fan of seat belt laws, but I disagree that it should be optional for adults if there are children in the car. An unbelted passenger becomes a flying destructive mass in some accidents, so even if the children are buckled in, their parents could cause them harm by being unsecured.

Mediator, I didn’t make my views very clear on my comment. IF CHILDREN are in the car…then YES, all occupants should be required to buckle up. But if NO CHILDREN ARE PRESENT in the car, then seat belts should be optional. My point was that officers would have a difficult time enforcing the law since windows are allowed to be completely blacked out on rear and back windows, making it near impossible for them to see if children were in the back unbuckled. ABSOLUTELY BUCKLE KIDS UP.

Just remember, its not about the money!

It is all about making money for the insurance company’s. That is where most of the laws that take away our freedom comes from.

Bingo! You’re correct LVS, I’m proud of you. However even a broken clock is right once in awhile. LOL

@Bro-a broken clock is right twice a day. See there, even you are right some times. LOL.

I remember one of the great lies “You will never be stopped for not using your seat belt.” Now it is a good source of revenue.

Recalling great lies!!! How about “if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor”. The seat belt is the law, like it or not we must click it or get a ticket. Yes they are trying to protect us from ourselves.

It’s not the governments job to protect us from ourselves. If that’s the case, I want you arrested for eating junk food.

Here we go again, more hassle from the police to protect us from ourselves.

@Bro-For once we agree on something. I fought this law for years and after paying several hundred dollars in fines I finally had to give in. Besides, today’s car are engineered for seatbelts. Nothing like the older cars.
