Brawl in MC neighborhood leads to arrests, possible injuries

MASON CITY – Another brawl in Mason City was reported Wednesday – just a day after a melee on South Monroe brought police to that area – this time leading to five arrests and possible injuries.

Mason City police described an incident Wednesday that essentially lasted about 9 hours, off and on, in the area of Highway 122 and Willowbrook Drive.

On Wednesday, at 1:10 PM, witnesses reported some males that appeared disorderly near Highway 122 and Willowbrook Drive. The males hid from officers but officers located some of the subjects in the 000 block of Willowbrook Dr. The subjects were uncooperative and had conflicting stories of what led up to the incident. No charges were filed.

Later, at about 10:00 PM, a witness reported a large disturbance in the 000 block of Willowbrook Drive.  Police were dispatched to the area.  After an investigation, it was determined that 18-year-old Austin Ross of Hampton is a defendant in a no-contact order with 18-year-old Katlin Dravenstott of Mason City and that this incident and the afternoon incident were related to the no-contact order.

Police surmised that between the 1:10 PM incident and the 10 PM incident, multiple people had been making harassing comments on social media or text messaging back and forth between the two subjects and their friends looking for a fight. The 1:10 PM incident was supposedly interrupted by police. The 10:00 PM fight occurred outside Dravenstott’s residence. Because the harassing messages, challenges to fight, and willing participation to fight appeared to be mutually-shared between both groups, all participants were charged with disorderly conduct. Austin Ross was charged with disorderly conduct and violation of a no-contact order because he or others he was associated with had allegedly been communicating with Dravenstott or her friends (acting as 3rd parties) and then Austin Ross and his group ended up outside Dravenstott’s residence where both groups brawled.

One of the subjects requested an ambulance but then declined transport. It is believed by police that some may have gone to Mercy Hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.

Some of the posters here act as if this happens only in Mason City. Get out in the real world and look around at other cities. Move to Chicago!

@Retread-I don’t care what happens in other city’s. It shouldn’t happen here.

And they just keep coming and coming and coming. No trouble in River City. Drunkmeyer ran them out of town.

Oh my god WTF
