MASON CITY – Twenty-Seven Racers showed up for the Inaugural Mason City Moto Races, Sunday, for dirt bike and Quad racing. It was sponsored by Clausen Racing LLC and Mason City Honda.
“Since it is the first race here in Mason City and it being Mother’s Day, probably was the reason why more didn’t show up,” said track helpers Heather and Andy Conti.
“Our first day was canceled, April 28th, due to the rain and wet track,” said Curt Clausen of Clausen Racing and Mason City Honda.
There were only two racers from Mason City. Other racers came from Charles City, Fort Dodge, Eagle Grove, St. Ansgar, Floyd, Iowa Falls, Klemme, Garner, Clear Lake, Marble Rock, Elberos and Esterville. There were a couple of racers from Minnesota; Austin and Blooming Praire.
The racers were of all ages. Colton Crooks, age 8, from Charles City (pictured), raced his Quad in the School Boy Class. This was very entertaining. There was a younger racer, age unknown, that did his best on a smaller Quad. He was able to get three of the five laps in.
Depending on the class that a racer, raced in, determined the number of laps that would be raced. The “A” Class raced 8 laps and the “B and C” Classes did 7 laps. Some of the events had to be grouped together to make enough racers for each race.
“Hopefully, when the word gets out and people know about it, there will be more racers to fill the events,” said Clausen.
The rest of the Moto Race Schedule for 2012 is June 23, July 15, August 19 and September 22. The races start at 11:00 AM. Come to the North Iowa Events Center to have some good family fun watching the Mason City Moto Racing.
Tickets are $8.00 and kids under 5 are free and they can be purchased at Mason City Honda or the day of the event.
