Grassley plans to vote against new Farm Bill (VIDEO)

WASHINGTON – This week negotiations on the farm and nutrition bill came to a close. After two years, the House of Representatives passed the bill on Wednesday by a vote of 251 to 166. In a weekly video address, Senator Grassley explains why he will vote against it when the bill comes up for a vote in the Senate.

Thank you MR Grassley

Good on you Senator Grassley.

It is shame the American People have lost control of their own Government. Make no mistake, that is what a majority of the American People think.

I realize and we are not the same country we were 50 years ago. We are not better off!

Striking verbiage in a law behind closed doors amounts to tyranny.

Honest question here. I listened to Senator Grassley talk about the changes and, from his standpoint, I understand why he didn’t vote for the bill. Young farmers and the smaller farms need protection. What he didn’t say, and what I don’t know, is who was behind the scuttling of his recommendations. I suspect (but readily admit I don’t know for sure) that there were fellow Republicans involved with this. My suspicion comes from the speech. No where does the Senator call out any specific political party or representative on this vote. I would like an intelligent answer to my question. I do not want someone who knows as little as i do spouting off on what they think. Facts, please.

Here are some names I gleaned from elsewhere on the net.

“Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, supported the bill even though the conference committee dumped his amendment aimed at countering new California rules on the size of chicken cages.

Rep. Adrian Smith, R-Neb., who represents Nebraska’s largely agricultural 3rd District, also voted for the bill.

House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas, R-Okla, acknowledged the difficult path it had taken to reauthorize the 2008 farm bill. “This farm bill might not be quite defined by most people as a miracle,” he said. “But it’s amazingly close.”
