CLEAR LAKE – An allegedly violent hotel room altercation, a punch to a windshield, a shattered cell phone and a bruised girlfriend will make for a dreary New Year’s eve for a local man.
According to Clear Lake police, Monday evening at about 8:00 PM, three Clear Lake police officers were called to the Quick Shop, located at 904 North 8th Street, to answer a domestic call involving a man and a woman.
When the officers arrived, they found 25-year-old Alex Meyer of Clear Lake standing outside next to his girlfriend’s car. She was inside the car and told officers that she and Meyer had argued and that during the argument, he had hit the windshield on her car and cracked it. She said he also took her phone and broke it. As the officers spoke to her further, she told them that Meyer had held her against her will at his hotel room and that he assaulted her. She had bruises on her arms from that assault.
Meyer has been charged with two counts of criminal mischief, serious domestic assault, false imprisonment and obstruction of emergency communications. Clear Lake Chief of Police Greg Peterson said that additional charges of domestic assault and false imprisonment were added today. He is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on no bond at this time.
