IOWA CITY – An Iowa basketball player was stopped and arrested for operating while intoxicated early Saturday morning.
KACOUL DUT “Peter” Jok, age 20, a freshman on the Iowa men’s basketball team, was stopped by Iowa City police at 2:43 AM at Riverside Drive and South Iowa Avenue on a moped. Hawkcentral.com reported that Jok was unsteady while riding the moped, had no safety flag displayed and was missing a required taillight cover. Jok denied he had been drinking, but “police observed that he had watery eyes, impaired balance and smelled of ingested alcohol.”
Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery said in a statement that “I am currently in California recruiting and have not had an opportunity to gather all the facts of the OWI charge against Peter. When I return to Iowa City, and after being fully informed of the situation, we’ll deal with the facts at that time and operate in accordance with the rules and regulations of our student-athlete Code of Conduct.”
