MASON CITY – A gas leak was investigated Friday evening in Mason City.
Police had 1st Street SW blocked off at about 6 PM Friday after a call to authorities about the smell of gas and a possible gas leak near 1st Street SW and Madison Avenue.
A number of residents were outside their homes, and a number of drivers had stopped to see what all the commotion was about, watching firefighters investigate a gas meter on a house. There was an aroma of gas prevalent in the air. Two ambulances stood by as the gas was shut off to the house.
The area was soon back to normal as police, ambulance and firetrucks left the area.
