Two Mason City men injured, cited after one-vehicle accident

MASON CITY – Two men were injured and cited for offenses by law enforcement after a rural incident Thursday, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s said.

According to authorities, at about 9:55 PM on October 10, 2013, Cerro Gordo County Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident with injuries.  Two males were injured.  The driver, Dillon Jacob Frank, 20, of Mason City was transported to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa by Mason City fire medics.  Mr. Frank was driving westbound on 260th Street, West of Vine Avenue, in a 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when he lost control, striking an embankment and mailbox at a rural residence.

The front seat passenger, Dana Paul Cavanaugh Jr., 21, of Mason City, was transported to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa by private vehicle.  Two other male occupants were not injured in the accident.

Mr. Cavanaugh was cited for no seat belt and open container of alcohol as a passenger.

Mr. Frank was cited for reckless driving, fail to maintain control, striking fixtures on a highway, and minor consumption.  Further charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.

Deputies were assisted by Mason City fire medics, Nora Springs Fire and Nora Springs Ambulance.
