Upmeyer: “Americans may be losing their faith in government”

Upmeyer: "It was a pleasure to have Richelle Orr, Miss Iowa 2013, lead the Iowa House in the Pledge of Allegiance on Tuesday as my guest. Richelle grew up in Hampton, Iowa- a great community in my district. Richelle will compete for the title of Miss USA this June. She is a tremendous representative of our state and I wish her all the best!"

From Rep. Linda Upmeyer –

The 85th General Assembly has officially kicked off and we are already hard at work. It is always a humbling experience to walk into our beautiful State Capitol, thinking of all the history that is contained in these hallways and meeting rooms, and know I have been entrusted with the privilege of continuing to serve my fellow neighbors in the Iowa House.

In my role as the House Majority Leader, I was honored to provide remarks on the House Floor during the opening ceremonies of the 2013 legislative session. If you are interested in following the action taking place in the Iowa House this session, please visit www.legis.iowa.gov, to view a live video stream of floor debate and our daily activity.

As I stated during my speech, I am afraid that because of the issues plaguing Washington, Americans may be losing their faith in government. They question the ability of good men and women to come together to tackle issues head on. It is my hope that the 85th General Assembly of Iowa may serve as an example of the best in public service.

We have the opportunity to demonstrate what happens when we focus not on our differences, but on our common goals. I am looking forward to working together to identify solutions to the problems we face, such as revitalizing our education system and providing significant and genuine tax relief to all classes of property.

We will remain vigilant about sticking to our core principles of commonsense budgeting- and because of the responsible budgeting practices of the past two years, the state now enjoys a healthy ending balance. We should commit to returning the overpayment of tax dollars back to its rightful owners- the taxpayers of Iowa. Hardworking Iowans earned that money and they are best equipped to invest it back into our state.

On Tuesday, the Governor gave his annual Condition of the State Address and presented his two-year budget to the General Assembly. I was pleased to hear the Governor echo many of the principles and goals I outlined in my speech- to provide real property tax relief and reform, ensure the state spends less than it takes in, and a desire to return the over-collection of taxpayer dollars back to Iowans.

Chief Justice of the Iowa Supreme Court Mark Cady presented the Condition of the Judiciary on Wednesday. I appreciated hearing Justice Cady’s plans to continue to increase efficiency, technology, and transparency in Iowa’s courts system in order to best serve and protect Iowans across the state.

If you are planning a trip to the Capitol in the coming months, I would love to see you! Feel free to contact me anytime at linda.upmeyer@legis.iowa.gov or 515-281-4618 to schedule a visit or to make me aware of any issues you care about.

Hello there! I know this is kinda off topic but I’d figured I’d ask.

Would you be interested in trading links or maybe guest authoring a blog post or vice-versa?
My site addresses a lot of the same topics as yours and I feel
we could greatly benefit from each other. If you are interested feel free to shoot me an e-mail.
I look forward to hearing from you! Wonderful blog by the way!

One thing most people want away from life is a sense contentment.
One type generates a balloon bag with vapor along with the
other works on the tube. Other important feature of portable vaporizer is always that as it operates just under
the combustion temperature, it gets hotter the herbs most effectively to produce its fragrance and
active ingredient and to prevent other adverse ingredients from getting released.

500 plus dollars a day school teachers is a reality !

What are you talking about?

Did this hag all of a sudden wake from a 10 year sleep to realize what is going on.

Perhaps Ms Upmeyer should look to herself to try to understand why the people have no faith in their government or the politicians that run it.

When we have “leaders” like Grassley, Harkin, Latham, Branstad, King,….etc, what do you expect?
I’ve written to them about rescheduling cannabis/marijuana many times. Grassley wrote back comparing marijuana users to murderers, rapists, and child abusers.
Harkin said marijuana makes people sell their children.
This nonsense should not be tolerated! They are either clueless, or are in the pockets of pharma/oil/law enforcement lobby.
The people of Iowa want marijuana allowed for medical use(DSM Reg poll-64%). These “leaders” DO NOT represent their constituents.
They are reprehensible and morally corrupt to allow people to suffer.

lost it when I seen the national debt and the fact we do nothing about it

I don’t think there is any maybe about it. Most are very out of touch with what their constituents want. They get elected and then go into the protection mode. Doing what ever it takes to get re-elected again (which is getting as much money together from anyone or anything as they can). The problem is almost everyone thinks all polititions are doing a bad job, except theirs.

@happyguy, every once in a while we do agree on something.

@Maybe-even I can agree with this one.

Linda, i think you are out of the the touch of reality, the general public has absolutely no faith in our politicians. They are in politics only for there own pocketbooks and the hell with the people who elected them. I would be totally ashamed to tell someone that i was a politician!! Politicians are nothing more than actors !!!

maybe??? where the heck has she been since the 60’s and Vietnam or the 70’s and Nixon resigning?

I would have more faith in a retards itchy trigger with military style assault weapon crammed up my ass!

“May be” losing faith in our government? Mine was pretty much gone several years ago. I’m just starting to get some of it back. I sure hope the feeling continues.
