MASON CITY – The anniversary of the 9-11 attacks was marked in North Iowa by motorcycle enthusiasts Wednesday evening.
On a perfect sunny evening in downtown Mason City, motorcyclists met at Central Park in downtown Mason City to start the Memorial Ride, complete with a police and fire fighter escort.
The participants were set to travel from Mason City to St. Ansgar, where they would observe a moment of silence at the Freedom Rock, and then on to Lake Mills to observe another moment of silence. The last stop was set for Clear Lake at the 9-11 steel beam memorial. Event organizer Jo Onken told NIT that marines would be on hand in Clear Lake for a flag ceremony.
Some of the riders said they would be headed to Bike Night at the Other Place in Clear Lake to complete their evening.
The event was open to the public and there was no cost to participate.
