MASON CITY – A Hampton, Iowa woman was in Mason City Wednesday demonstrating a wide range of issues, from bullying, to the environment, to human rights.

According to Summer Adkins,”our country is not doing so well right now.”

Her organization is called “The Revolution.”

Ms. Adkins expanded on this thesis by saying that “A lot of things have to do with big companies, oil companies, that are kind of using American citizens, taking of our rights, they make so much money each year.  I just think it is unacceptable we can fund a war and put so much money into our military.”

Wednesday was Ms. Adkins’ first stop.  She is 26 years old and a Hampton-Dumont High School graduate with a 4 year-old son, whom she credits for the inspiration to take to the street and voice her opinions. She also brought her grandmother to keep her company Wednesday.

“Our sense of normal living is becoming harder and harder to thrive in.  Oil companies, CEO’s and big pharmaceutical companies I feel are draining American citizens of their rights.”

Ms. Adkins said she would be demonstrating Thursday and Friday but wasn’t sure what town she would be in.

I give the young lady credit for standing up for what she believes in.

oh, and Grandma George I thought your signs were great!

I applaud Summer for trying to make a difference. She knows what she stands for and right or wrong is not afraid to voice her opinion. That is more that I can say for people commenting with anonymous names. Is she perfect or does she have all the answers-No, who is? You guys that are criticizing her are going by a 2 minute sound bite, if you actually met and talked to her, she has all kinds of ideas and causes. her whole point was to motivate people to get out and do something for whatever your cause might be. If she inspired even a handful of people to go out and do a little extra good that day, maybe give to a food bank, volunteer some extra time, whatever…, was she really silly or wasting her time? Don’t let people get you down Summer, I think you’re the best!

Mike, very well said. Thanks for the positive post.

I second that

Lets face it. We live in a complex world. In order to bring a product to market, it costs money.

If your job was a research chemist at a Pharmaceutical plant, would you work for free?

If oil was discovered on your land to which you had rights, would you give it away for free?

If you owned a store, would you sell products for no profit?

All those things are but small cogs in the big picture, yet they add up quite fast. It’s quite silly to sit by the roadside and complain about “Corporations” and “Big Oil”. Yet it is the easy way out because it takes energy to discern why things cost more, or why things are so complex. What is reality, and what is a dream.

she isnt talking about a mom and pop store here. she is talking about walmart, oil companies, insurance companies and such that have such high profits while the employees are treated like slaves. Hasnt anyone ever thought of the world today as looking like another form of slavery, with the rich getting richer off the poor working sole?

No mission, no goals, no solutions. Sitting around bitching about problems is not a solution. Get to work on fixing the problem instead of sitting on a sidewalk with really crappy signs.

ever hear the phrase “little strokes fell great oaks”? it has to start somewhere Debbie downer.

I don’t agree with her premise, start with “Big Oil,” she blames them for big profits, wrong, their profit margin is very small in the scope of things if you do your research. They are blocked by our Federal government at every turn for wanting to drill for oil on land that has been proven to have huge amounts of oil under the surface. So, they have to go off shore, they are blocked their too, so they say to hell with it, we will drill over seas and bring it back to the US by boat. (Does that sound like a good business plan? Drill here and drill now. The US Government has brought the Gas prices where they are today because they have put the Oil companies out of business since the 70’s because of enviornmental wacko’s. We have not have a new refinery built in this country for I believe about 30 years, you need them to make gas for cars. We need more of them as well, every time there is a shut down for repairs or change of Government mandates, the prices go up. This is all Government and you people blaim it on the oil company, the blaim is on the doorstep of the Federal and State Government.

YOU ARE SO FULL OF SHIT. look at this link and read the top earning companies. 6 of the top 10 are oil companies. READ THE FACTS. Summer is correct

I totally agree with her cause but we can blame allot of this on our President and congress making very poor decisions for our country.
