Mason City, Iowa – June 4, 2013 –Mason Citians are invited to attend a neighborhood workshop to help design a bicycle and pedestrian transportation system for Mason City. “These meetings will be hands-on, interactive workshops where participants will help to guide the completion of the Mason City Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan,” said Steven Van Steenhuyse, Director of Development Services. “We want the plan to reflect the desires of those who enjoy the outdoors, as well as those who would bike or walk more often if there were safe and convenient routes for them to use. We’re inviting people of all ages, abilities and interests to attend these workshops and let us know what they want to see in the plan.”

There will be four workshops this summer, in each quadrant of the city. Those who live in the northwest quadrant, north of Highway 122 and west of Federal Avenue, are invited to the First Presbyterian Church, 100 South Pierce Avenue, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 11. The northeast quadrant workshop for those living north of Highway 122 and east of Federal Avenue will be held on Wednesday, June 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1148 4th Street SE. If you are unable to attend the workshop for your quadrant, you are welcome to attend one of the other workshops.

Workshops for the southeast and southwest quadrants are planned for July 9 and 10; locations and times are yet to be determined. Updated information will provided on the project website, www.activatemasoncity.com.

Citizens are also encouraged, if they have not already done so, to take the Bicycle and Pedestrian survey. Just go to www.activatemasoncity.com and click on “Take a Survey.” It only takes a few minutes. “We’ve gotten a good response so far, but as more people take the survey, the more we will be able to craft a plan that truly reflects the opinions and desires of Mason City,” said Van Steenhuyse. The survey will be available online until June 28. For those without computer access, call the Development Services Department at 421-3626 and a paper survey will be mailed to you.
