DESLOGE, Mo., April 30 (UPI) — The American Civil Liberties Union is suing the city of Desloge, Mo., for banning Ku Klux Klan members from handing out leaflets on the street.

The ACLU previously sued the city on an earlier ordinance and the two sides reached an agreement March 19 in federal court whereby the city agreed not to enforce the old restriction, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said.

KKK Imperial Wizard Frank Ancona said Friday he was handing out leaflets when a police officer told him to stop. The officer, Ancona said, told him the city had passed a new ordinance banning the practice.

An ACLU lawyer said the new ordinance was intended to “side-step” the federal court settlement.

The city’s attorney couldn’t be reached to comment.
