Four arrested in early morning traffic stop

MASON CITY – Four men were arrested and taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail following a traffic stop at the intersection of SE 4th Street and College Drive shortly before 1am Wednesday morning.

A Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s deputy made a traffic contact with a vehicle driven by Mark James Leider, age 19, of Mason City. During the contact the deputy became suspicious of Leider’s behavior and after an investigation arrested him for 1st Offense OWI and Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs.

Three passengers in Leider’s vehicle were also arrested for Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs.

The passengers are identified as:

Caleb Jeffrey Harris, age 18, of Mason City.

Quinn Michael Schreuder, age 19, of Mason City.

Marcus Jamaal Hughes, age 19, of Webb City, Missouri. Hughes is formerly of Clear Lake and Mason City.

All for subjects were transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and released on their own recognizance Wednesday afternoon pending further court proceedings. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Mason City Police Department with the investigation and arrests.

With the exception of the driver, Mark Leider, the men all have a history of legal issues involving alcohol or controlled substances.

Hughes has pled not guilty in that case and a trial has been set for next Tuesday, February 19th, in Cerro Gordo County District Court.

Court records show Schreuder pled guilty to 1st Offense OWI on January 22nd, 2013 in Cerro Gordo County District Court following a traffic stop by the Iowa State Patrol on November 24, 2012. As part of the sentencing Schreuder was ordered to complete a substance abuse evaluation and follow the recommendation of the facility.

Court records show Harris pled guilty to unlawful consuming of alcohol in April 2012 following a citation by the Mason City Police Department the day after he turned 18. No substance abuse evaluation was ordered in the case.
