Worth County Man’s $100,000 Lottery Win Will Further His Career

Alvino Ramon

DES MOINES, Iowa – A Worth County man said he has always felt that he had better luck when scratching his lottery tickets in his garage; this time he was right.

Alvino Ramon, 69, said he took his “Super Crossword” ticket home after purchasing it at Casey’s, 202 Hwy. 18 in Clear Lake, and scratched it in his garage. He ended up winning a top prize of $50,000.

“My wife doesn’t even know it yet!” Ramon said. “She was in a meeting when I won.”

Ramon, who is from Fertile, joked that his wife will have a great time sharing in his win. He claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery’s regional office in Mason City, just hours after discovering his win.

“I stopped to get a donut and just said, ‘Oh, give me one of those tickets,'” he said.

Ramon said he enjoys Crossword tickets because he feels like he has better luck on them.

“I’m not sure why, but it seems like they’re lucky,” he said.

Ramon, who is a retired railroad employee, plans to take some time to think about how to use his winnings.

“Now I don’t have to worry about my pickup; if something goes wrong, I can just take it into the garage and fix it!” he said.
