CERRO GORDO COUNTY, July 8, 2012 – On May 29th, 2012, Central Gardens of North Iowa finalized a fund agreement with the Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation (CGCCF), an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa. The fund was made possible through a gift made by a major donor, and will support ongoing activities of Central Gardens of North Iowa.
Central Gardens was incorporated in 2003, and is located in downtown Clear Lake. This beautiful 2.75 acre area is maintained by hundreds of area volunteers. Each year, 25,000 visitors enjoy the themed gardens, the activity and ceremonial lawns, the Nature Education Pavilion, and the newly completed Mother Earth Workshop building. Additionally, many terraces and pathways offer great vantage points to view a wide variety of flowers, shrubs, and trees.
Improvements are ongoing. A grant provided by the CGCCF in 2011 funded the purchase of tables and chairs in the Nature Education Pavilion, used by many regional groups for meetings, luncheons, and garden parties. Work on 22 themed gardens will be completed in 2013. Activities are held at Central Gardens of North Iowa throughout the year and include horticultural seminars, fundraisers, gardening fairs, parties, and weddings. On an annual basis a perennial plant and grasses sale and Tour of Gardens and Homes take place.
