MASON CITY – A proposed natural gas rate increase will be discussed at a public hearing at the NIACC campus on July 10, 2012 in the Muse-Norris Conference Center.
On April 11, 2012, Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL), a subsidiary of Alliant Energy, filed with the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) a request for approval of a proposed natural gas general rate increase. An overall rate increase of 5.62% has been proposed.
After a thorough review of IPL’s request, the IUB will establish final natural gas rates, which may be different than the natural gas rates proposed by IPL. The IUB will also determine when the rates will become effective.
If the final natural gas rates are lower than the interim natural gas rates, the difference collected between final and interim rates will be refunded to customers with interest. The IUB will approve the method of refund.
The purpose of the public hearing is to provide customers with an opportunity to present comments regarding the proposed general rate increase and general service quality.
The hearings are for customers to comment on the proposed general rate increases and about IPL’s overall standard of service.
Specific customer complaints cannot be addressed at these hearings. Customers with specific service complaints should use the board’s informal complaint procedures.
It may only be a $5 increase on your bill, but look at the big picture:
*Multi-Million dollar salaries for executives of Alliant.
*Million dollar salaries for the middle-manager
I wonder what the guy who drives forklift gets?? Probably 6 figures.
I think there are a few mgmt efficiencies that the company can do first before asking for more $$ from a rate payer.
I just find it amusing that the get bonuses for increasing stock…which really means increasing rates.

The alliant execs don’t care if the customers struggle to pay thier bills. Thats how their getting rich. It might only be 5 dollars on the bill but its millions for them. This is wrong and I hope the IUB listens to the customers. How much do forklift drivers get paid there?
Alliant is riddled with management inefficiencies, so it’s no wonder they’re trying to push another rate case through.
This website talks about Alliant being audited for bad financial practices, and guess who will have to foot the bill for their lack of financial responsiblity: THE CUSTOMER!

Matt
Can you find out what this audit is about? How come we havent heard anything about it? I think information about the audit should be made to the public if Alliant wants more money again. They should learn to not be so wasteful so they wouldn’t have to ask for money every year.
Wasteful? Mismangement? I think Alliant’s purchase and sell of a resort in Mexico at $41Million was a great business decision for a mid-west utility. Rumor is the lost big $ on it…maybe we are paying the $5 increase for this??

Granted this old school news (2007) but once a cess pool of mismanaged funds…always a cess pool.
What’s the point? If they reduce it, they will just come back next year and ask for an even bigger rate increase.
And if they deny the rate increase completely……oh wait, they won’t do that. Forget what I typed.
Alliant just had an increase last year for electrical rates. Now they want more money for gas, even though gas rates are down. I don’t think the paying public has gotten raises that keep pace with Alliant’s rate increases! Tell the IUB that enough is enough!!!
