Long-time Mason City business preparing new location

MASON CITY – A North End business is preparing a new location near downtown Mason City.

Huber Supply is expanding into a building at 149 4th Street SW. That building is the former home of Metalcraft, which moved to the far west side of Mason City last year and left the building for sale. Records show that Huber Supply purchased the property for $261,000. Huber Supply is currently located at 1525 North Federal Avenue. On May 8th, Huber directed all mail to be delivered to a PO box while work on the new location is finalized.

A Mason City official told NIT that Huber is remodeling the building at this time for a showroom and warehouse facility. Work has been on-going; this week, Heartland Asphalt was busy installing a large parking lot in the grass field east of the main building. Work was also being completed on a main entrance on the east side of the building facing the parking lot.  On the building’s west side, it appeared that a loading dock area was re-configured.

On its website, Huber – a welding company that has been in business for 75 years – reported that the project would be complete in fall of 2014. The company has three store locations: Mason City, Ames, and Owatonna, Minnesota. “All locations are successfully continuing to grow,” according to Huber.

They are really expanding the old MetalCraft building and creating a new entrance and expanding the loading dock! Good for them!

Just found out that the move wasn’t about the trouble on the north end. It was a family thing, which I won’t go into here.

Good for Huber. They have a great bunch of products and even better staff to serve their customers. Congratulations!

Word on the street is that because of all the trouble on the north end, the workers didn’t feel safe working there. That’s just hearsay now, lol…

@Allen-That is BULL. I don’t know who told you that but it is totally wrong. Since the Alley Katz shut down things have gotten fairly quite up here. All the trouble in town is now in the downtown area and somewhat in the South End. I just talked to a couple of police officers yesterday and that is what I was told. They still have an occasional problem at Burke’s and some at Kum & Go but they have problems all over that way.

No, it’s because they want to expand. They have new stores in Ames and Owatonna and have enough business to expand in Mason City too. They have a large online business that is serviced from Mason City. They simply didn’t have enough space. I’ve heard their north side building has been sold to another Mason City business that is expanding.
