BRIX Firewood, made in St. Ansgar, given away Friday at Casey’s

by Jody Spear and Kelly Meyer –

MASON CITY – Steve Smith, Casey’s Manager and Dan Freeman, Partner of Renew Energy Systems, were outside Casey’s General Store on 19th Street SW Friday afternoon demonstrating and giving away free BRIX Firelogs.

BRIX firelogs hav several advantages: They are transportable, consistent, easier to store, multi-purpose and the fire starter is included.

The hardwood logs are good for cooking, smoking, woodstoves, fireplaces and campfires. The fire starter that is included, “Acts like a torch, you light it under the wood and within fifteen minutes you have a full fire,” says Dan Freeman.

They have no bugs, which means it can be transported into campgrounds, recreational areas, and state parks without having to worry about spreading disease like Emerald Ashe Borer. They can be stored inside your home, RV, or vehicle without anything crawling off.

Low moisture consistently from package to package means that it will perform better than firewood time after time.

“Our briquettes are made in St. Ansgar, Iowa, using state of the art machinery. They are made on mechanical briquette presses that use heat (up to 250 degrees F) and extreme pressure (almost 17,000 psi) to bind the hardwood sawdust together. The Briquettes are made approximately 31/2 inches in diameter and we use a breaker to get them to the 14 inch length.” explains their brochure. “They are 100% Hardwood, No bugs: We use kiln dried hardwood sawdust and our production process is a double guarantee. There are no binders or additives, have uniform low moisture (less than 8%), creates less mess: burns much cleaner than firewood (about 1/5th the ash of firewood) and is high energy. Eighteen pounds of BRIX is equal to twenty-five pounds of firewood.

If you would like to purchase more BRIX after using your free gift from Renew Energy Systems, you can find them at Casey’s and at some Hy-Vee stores. “If you can’t find any, let us know, we’ll make sure you get some,” said Steve Smith.

The logs sell for $4.99. If you need more, you can buy it by the pallet, cheaper. To learn more about BRIX go to http://www.renewenergysystems.com/ or e-mail info@renewenergysystems.com. Their phone number is (641) 713-3320 and facebook: BRIX.
