Iowa, Iowa State graduate programs ranked by U.S. News

Diane Heldt, CR Gazette –

The University of Iowa College of Law and the Carver College of Medicine both slipped slightly in a national ranking of graduate school programs released Tuesday.

The UI College of Law was 29th in the newest ranking by U.S. News and World Report, compared to the college’s rank of 27th last year. The UI Carver College of Medicine ranked 29th in the research category, compared to 26th last year, and 12th in the primary care category, compared to 10th last year.

The magazine’s 2013 rankings of America’s best graduate schools and programs were released Tuesday. The 2013 edition of the publication’s Best Graduate Schools book will be available April 3. The rankings include public and private universities and colleges, so the UI and Iowa State University would rank higher in the categories if only public universities were included.

For business schools, the UI Tippie College ranked 49th and ISU’s College of Business ranked 64th. The UI ranked 34th for its part-time MBA program. For education schools, the UI ranked 33rd while ISU ranked 92nd. ISU’s College of Engineering ranked 43rd nationally, compared to 56th for the UI’s engineering college.

Numerous UI health science disciplines were included in the rankings. Some of those program rankings are several years old, or carry-over rankings, while others are new rankings.

Among the rankings for the UI were speech/language pathology (1st), audiology (2nd), physical therapy (5th), pharmacy (17th) and clinical psychology (18th).
