Mason City Schools construction update

CONSTRUCTION UPDATES – WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW!

Phase 3A – Larson Contracting
Corridor 176
o Mason is working on the brick piers on the west side of the corridor. Expected to be done this week.
o Mechanical and electrical above ceiling work is progressing, ceiling work will follow in next two weeks

JAMS dining area
o Brick piers will be done this week.
o Upper windows are not installed but are enclosed to help condition the space.
o The majority of the electrical and plumbing above ceiling work is completed. Ductwork to follow.
o Ceiling bulkhead framing has begun at the perimeter of this space.

Penthouse
o The mechanical units are set and power to the penthouse electrical panels is complete.
o Piping to the units is proceeding.
o Expected to be operational the week of 11/21. Testing balancing, flushing the system, cleaning filters and other necessary operations after the units have been started will occur.
o Exterior brick work is still a couple weeks out.

Kitchen Area
o Wall and ceiling finishes are proceeding.
o Terrazzo in the Teacher Dining area will begin this week.
o Wall tile in the Senior High serving area has begun.
o Boelter is finishing up installation of the hoods and the walk- in coolers will be installed next. The coolers were delivered October 31st.
o Terrazzo in the Senior High serving area is sealed and terrazzo in the JAMS serving area is expected to begin this week.
o The replacement of the roof over the east end of the kitchen and boiler room should be completed by the end of this week.
The remaining concrete paving has been placed. Dirt grading and sealing of joints remains.

Phase 3B – Henkel Construction
The following is a brief update for Project 3B:
o The majority of the interior walls have been demolished.
o New masonry corridor walls are proceeding at the North end of the building.
o Door frames at the 2nd level are being installed.
o The elevator addition is progressing. Masonry block walls are almost complete and Henkel will be pouring the 2nd floor concrete slab this week.
o Ductwork is being installed at the 1st Floor – south end.
o The replacement of the roof over the library will be done this week.

Phase 4 — FEMA Safe Room – Holland Construction
o Holland has mobilized on site and started excavating for concrete foundations.
o The south and west wall footings should be placed this week.
o No rock excavation at the south wall of the building. However, rock has been uncovered at the west wall and north wall. Some of this was anticipated and included in the project.
