GREENE COUNTY – A 75-year-old Iowa woman was killed and two other people suffered serious injuries Friday when an SUV pulled from a stop sign and was struck by an approaching car at a rural Iowa intersection.

The collision happened at approximately 12:55 p.m. on August 14, 2026, at Highway 30 Diagonal and 210th Street in Greene County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 27-year-old Frizabel Anwi Waki of Lincoln, Nebraska, was driving a 2019 Ford Escape west on 210th Street, approaching Highway 30 Diagonal from the east.

At the same time, 75-year-old Marcia Lucile Bachmann of Denison was driving a 2018 Toyota Prius southeast on Highway 30 Diagonal.

Investigators said Waki pulled the Escape from the stop sign and entered the intersection, where the SUV was struck by Bachmann’s Prius.

Bachmann suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Greene County EMS transported her body to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Waki and her passenger, 27-year-old Mbachokieng Claudine Ngum of West Des Moines, suffered serious injuries.

Waki was flown by Life Flight to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Carroll EMS transported Ngum to the same hospital.

The State Patrol reported that all three people were wearing seatbelts. Investigators credited the restraints with saving the lives of Waki and Ngum.

Both vehicles sustained damage requiring them to be removed from the scene by Performance Tire.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper N. Henkle investigated the fatal collision with assistance from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Carroll-area emergency responders.

The initial crash report did not announce any citations or criminal charges. The collision remained under investigation.

Bachmann’s death was included among at least 181 traffic fatalities reported in Iowa during 2026, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s most recent preliminary daily count available following the crash. That figure can change as investigations are completed and additional crash-related deaths are reported.
