NORTHWOOD – The Worth County Board of Supervisors addressed several infrastructure and administrative matters during their regular meeting on Monday, May 4, 2026. With Vice-chairperson A.J. Stone presiding and Supervisor Mark Smeby present, the board moved forward with a significant agenda focused on drainage maintenance and county facilities.
A major portion of the session was dedicated to the approval of drainage claims totaling $20,783.81. These claims covered various professional services and repairs across multiple districts, including substantial work billed by Bolton & Menk Inc. for the DD 46 Main Open Ditch and other tile projects. The board also authorized payments for beaver control in DD 1 and DD 46, as well as a new work order for DD #17 submitted by Dan Benson.
In addition to drainage matters, the supervisors approved a proposal from the Diamond Jo Casino to fund the painting and signage for the county’s new small water tower. To ensure the reliability of county utility services, the board also finalized preventive maintenance agreements with 3E for the generators located at the Water and Wastewater treatment plants.
Personnel and administrative updates were also finalized during the meeting. The board approved the hiring of Gary Brunsvold as a seasonal employee for the secondary roads department at a rate of $20.50 per hour. Furthermore, the supervisors confirmed that Worth County will continue its involvement with the Central Iowa Detention Center as a non-voting member and voted to rescind a previous motion to opt out of the Community Services Network, ensuring participation for the upcoming 2027 fiscal year. The session concluded following an FY25 audit review presented by Elizabeth Thyer of Gardiner + Company.
