June 19, 1940 – October 6, 2025

David L. Lutz, 85, of Charles City, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Accura Healthcare of New Hampton.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with one-hour prior visitation. A visitation will also be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home in Charles City, with a rosary at 5:00 p.m.

Born on June 19, 1940, in Greene, Iowa, David moved to a small farm near Colwell, Iowa, at the age of two. From a young age, he embraced farm life, helping with chores and milking cows by the age of five. Throughout his school years he participated in many activities including basketball where he earned the nickname “Doc” for his skills on the court. He continued his passion for animals by joining the Colwell Comet 4-H group, where he excelled, earning blue ribbons at both the local and Iowa State Fair for his steer. David graduated from Colwell High School in 1958.

After graduation, he became a 4-H leader for three years and began his career at Oliver Tractor Company in 1962, later transitioning to White Farm Tractors. He dedicated 31 years to the company until its closure. After leaving White Farm Tractors, David worked for Sherman Nursery for 8 ½ years before retiring in 2002.
On April 1, 1967, David married the love of his life, Georgianna Merrill. Together, they shared 41 wonderful years of marriage until Georgianna’s passing in 2008. They were blessed with a daughter, Theresa, born in 1971.

In his later years, David enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and word searches, and spending time with family. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Georgianna, and siblings Betty J. Breuning, Marie Koehler, and Harlan Lutz.

David’s memory will be cherished by his daughter Theresa (Doug) Deetz; his four grandchildren: Rick (Shannon) Deetz, Tiffany Deetz (Kane Miller), Emily (Matt) Rust, and Caleb (Bella) Deetz; and his seven great-grandchildren: Porter and Maisie Miller, Henry and Nash Deetz, Trevor and Carter Rust, and Lowen Deetz, with great-grandbaby Deetz number eight expected in April 2026.

David will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and love for his family and community. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, compassion, and cherished memories.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in David’s honor.
