MASON CITY – The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday morning for its regular meeting.
The board heard a road report from County Engineer Mary Kelly (see video).
The board placed MIS Director Scott Alan Tepner on unpaid administrative leave retroactive to July 1, 2013. Tepner has been arrested twice since March 21st involving a domestic situation at a residence at the 1600 block of North Hampshire Avenue.
Tepner has plead not guilty to domestic assault causing bodily injury and faces a trial on July 16th, 2013. Records show Tepner was found not guilty on May 2nd of of violating a no-contact order related to this case.
The board promoted another employee to temporarily fill Tepner’s position.
The board also approved a change in insurance carriers for worker’s compensation.
“The change in workers compensation carrier is coming about as a result of a very favorable quote received from the Iowa Municipalities Workers Compensation Association (IMWCA),” said Tom Drzycimski, Cerro Gordo County Director of Personnel & Safety. “IMWCA asked our local agent to quote the county’s coverage for July 1. Their net premium was $59,000 below that proposed by United Heartland, who has been our carrier since 2004. I received favorable feedback from colleagues around the state who work with IMWCA so we’re going forward with the change. United Heartland has been excellent to work with and we have no complaints about their services. The decision came down to the cost savings offered by IMWCA.”
The board also appointed Arthur Jones to the North Iowa Corridor EDC Board. It was said he would be taking Tom Jolas’ place on the board.
