Robert “Bob” Joseph McFarland went home at 94 years old on April 24, 2025, at Mercy One in Mason City, IA under the amazing care of the hospice team (especially nurse Sam).

Funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City. Burial will follow at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery. After the burial a luncheon will be held at the VFW Post 733, 1603 S Monroe Ave, Mason City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 9:00 AM at the funeral home.

Bob was born November 12, 1930 in Wells, MN to Lina (Mischke) and Elmer McFarland, he was a sibling to six. He left home to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War, specializing in artillery. After serving time for our country Bob moved home and began a new career with the railroad lasting 42 years to retirement working from a laborer to roadmaster.

The greatest treasure of Bob’s life was his wife Sedonna who he was united in marriage to on May 18, 1957, together the couple had four children Debra, Carlin, Darla and Deanna, he was also a stepfather to Marlin and Harlin Severson.

After raising their family the couple enjoyed their winter home in Donna, TX where they fished, met new friends and also visited the VFW daily. They hosted parties in their basement bar and never missed hosting a family lunch at their place on Sundays. Bob was a caretaker of many things in life and that showed in his caretaking for his wife and daughter Debra, until their very last days. Bob enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with his fellow VFW patrons, family and friends. He was a proud gardener and a proud member of the VFW Post 733, even at 94 years old he still made his daily appearance for a soda.

Bob recently enjoyed any time spent with family. His most recent excitement was watching his great grandchildren Pax and Mac grow.

He will always be remembered sitting at his picnic table listening to the radio soaking up the sun next to his garden with an ice cold beer, for always giving that extra tight hug, his brisket with hot sauce and always showing up for family meals, even up until his last days.

Bob is survived by his siblings, Jim and Margaret; children, Carlin (Wendy), Darla, Deanna, and Marlin; grandchildren, John (Shannon), Bill (Jamie), Jared, Julie, Sarah (Tanner), Jamie (Alexa), Taylor and his beloved great grandchildren.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, four siblings; wife, Sedonna; daughter, Debra; and grandchild, Robert.

Until we meet him again, we will wonder…
