Tyler Timothy Johnson, age 38, of Cresco, IA, passed away on March 23, 2025 in a single-vehicle accident.
Tyler was born on September 28, 1986 to Timothy and Diane (Brand) Johnson of Rushford, MN. He graduated from Rushford-Peterson High School in 2005, where he excelled in basketball, football and academics. After high school, Tyler moved to Alexandria, MN with his high school sweetheart, Kelcie. He graduated at the top of his class from the concrete masonry program. After college, Tyler and Kelcie moved back home to the Rushford-Peterson area to be closer to family.
Tyler and Kelcie were married on June 21, 2008. He was the biggest supporter of his wife Kelcie and their children—Nolan, Evan and Amielea. He prioritized attending his children’s extra-curricular activities. Tyler loved nothing more than spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, making deer jerky and staying busy outside. He was a humble, quiet, kind-hearted man, who would drop everything he was doing to help out a friend or family member. His high-pitched laughter and endless supply of one-liners will always be remembered. Tyler found inspiration in music, and we are so lucky to have so many special memories with his favorite songs.
In 2014 Tyler and Kelcie moved to Cresco, IA. Tyler always found the most joy in being self-employed. His hard work ethic remained a constant throughout his life, which is one of the many qualities he inherited from his grandpa Maynard. Tyler had a passion for renovating homes and putting all his might into every project. His biggest accomplishment to date was building his family their forever home, which was completed earlier this year.
Tyler was preceded in death by his grandparents: Marjo Johnson, Vernon and Marilyn Brand, and Glenn Lea, aunt Dee Ann and cousins Dylan and Jamie.
He is survived by his wife Kelcie and their children: Nolan, Evan and Amielea, parents Timothy and Diane (Brand) Johnson, brother Cody Johnson, grandparents Maynard Johnson and Margaret Lea, mother and father in-law Kim and Kathy Chiglo, brother in-law Kyle (Lisa) Chiglo, sisters in-law: Katie (Jeremy) Aug, Kami (Aaron) Highum, Kayla (Mark) Hovland, Kristi Chiglo (Brandon Qualy), nephews and nieces: Tristen (Rachel), Treyten, Trenten (Haley), Maxwell, Gage, Nadia, Emma, Daytona (Clay), Carter, Cooper, Beckett, Indy, Tenley and Charlotte, great niece Brynn and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
We cannot even begin to express what a heartbreaking loss this is for our family and friends. Please share stories of Tyler to keep his memory alive.
A public visitation will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025 from 4:00-7:00pm at Schmelzer Funeral Home (formerly Lindstrom) in Cresco.
