KOSSUTH COUNTY – Police found a Northern Iowa man slumped over a steering wheel in this tiny Kossuth county town, and now he is behind bars facing felony charges.
On March 13, 2025 at about 7:10 PM, a Kossuth County Deputy Sheriff was patrolling in Wesley when he observed a vehicle parked along East Street and Old Hwy 18 with the driver slumped over behind the wheel.
The deputy stopped to do a welfare check on the occupant and determined he did not need medical attention.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy observed illegal narcotics and paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
This observation led to the arrest of the occupant, 64-year-old Dean Youngwirth, of Wesley. This also led to a search warrant at his residence, 500 East Street North in Wesley. Youngwirth was charged with:
• Possession of Controlled Substance w/ Intent to Deliver (Class B Felony)
• Possession of Marijuana 3rd Offense (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
• Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp (Class D Felony)
• Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Offense (Serious Misdemeanor)
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Simple Misdemeanor)
Youngwirth was booked into the Kossuth County Jail and is awaiting his initial appearance.
