Robert Shaw, 87, of Hampton, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Faith Baptist Church in Hampton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Bob will be laid to rest in the Hampton Cemetery. Woodley Funeral Home of Hampton is caring for Bob and his family.
Robert Joseph Shaw was born November 20, 1937, in Clarion, son of Joseph Matthew and Sadie Marietta (Hefte) Shaw. On November 25, 1961, he was united in marriage to Pamela Paullus in Albert Lea, Minnesota. To this union, three children were born.
Bob was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard Reserve. He owned and operated Shaw Construction, Inc. for 40 years, where he built homes, commercial buildings, and numerous Kum & Go convenience stores. Known for his meticulous craftsmanship and strong work ethic, he took great pride in “doing it right the first time,” and was respected by everyone in the trades. If you have visited Hampton, chances are that he either built or remodeled the building you were standing in. And if you ever needed your garage overhead door fixed, Bob was the man to call, any day of the week.
After retiring from construction, Bob embraced his love for travel and spent 12 years delivering Winnebago motorhomes across the United States. True to his nature, he was an early riser who could rack up many miles in a single day, finding joy in the open road.
Bob was a man of quiet strength, integrity, and unwavering generosity. He treated everyone with kindness and will always be remembered for his dry sense of humor. His one-liners, often delivered with a subtle hand or finger gesture, or a tug at his toothpick, were classic and unforgettable.
Bob had a deep love for his family and cherished every moment spent with them. Family vacations were among his greatest joys, creating countless treasured memories with Pam and his children as they grew up. He found happiness in the simple pleasures of life: reading, playing cribbage, experimenting with soup recipes, and traveling — particularly to Arizona. Some of his most cherished adventures were fishing trips to Canada with friends, where he enjoyed both the camaraderie and the serenity of the great outdoors.
Bob never wanted to impose, never wanted to be a bother, and never spoke ill of anyone. He was always approachable, always welcomed, and always willing to lend a helping hand. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and quiet devotion will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bob is survived by his wife Pamela Shaw of Hampton; children: Melanie Rice of Iowa Falls, Tim (Stephanie) Shaw of Casa Grande, Arizona, and Christy (John) Wearda of Hampton; grandchildren: Melissa Schnurr, Ashley Edmund, Savannah Shaw, Paris Shaw, Mackenzie Serbus, Sayler Elphic, Claire Phillips and Ben Wearda; nine great-grandchildren; sisters: Caroline Neve of Austin, Minnesota, Evelyn Engelman of Austin, Minnesota and Eldoris Seidel of Waterloo; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Don, Wayne, James and Orlan; and sisters: Hazel and Bernice.
