Michael James St John was born October 31, 1949, on the Huntermark farm east of West Bend; the son of Durwood and Catherine (Huntermark) St John. He graduated from Algona High School in 1970. Mike enlisted into the Airforce in 1971 at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He was stationed from 1973 to 1975 at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska and was honorably discharged in 1975 in North Dakota.

In 1975, he worked for Algona Plumbing until 1985, when he founded his own business, Mike’s Plumbing & Heating.

Outside of work, Mike was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt. He spent many years traveling to Nebraska and South Dakota to hunt deer, pheasants, ducks, geese, and prairie dogs. One of his proudest achievements was taking an 8-point buck with his bow and arrow at Bob Deal’s. His love for nature and hunting brought him countless memories.

Mike died Monday, January 6, 2025, at Kossuth Regional Health Center. He was 75.

He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Ron) Metzger of West Bend; five nephews, Scott (Christy) Metzger, Kevin (Becky) Metzger, Marc Metzger, Ken (Michelle) Metzger and Steven Metzger; one niece, Lynette Metzger; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and sister-in-law, Karen St John of Wesley.

Preceding him in death are his parents; and brother, Patrick St John.
