FORT DODGE – A Fort Dodge man is behind bars awaiting arraignment after cops say he robbed a Casey’s convenience store, got away, and then hours later was caught shoplifting from another Casey’s.

On Tuesday, October 22, at approximately 3:36 AM, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call from the Casey’s General Store, 3327 5th Ave. S., stating that a robbery had just occurred. The caller indicated that a male entered the store and demanded money before leaving on foot. When officers arrived on scene, they spoke to the victim and other witnesses. Information gathered at that time indicated a male entered the store and demanded money from the cashier. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled the area to the west on foot. No weapon was displayed during this incident and no injuries were reported. Officers were given a physical description of what the male looked like as well as what the male was wearing.

On Tuesday, October 22nd, at approximately 9:33 AM, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call from the Casey’s General Store, 2007 N 15th St. stating that a male had just left the store without paying for items. The called indicated that the male had left southbound on a bike. An officer was in the area and quickly located a male matching the description given by the caller on a bike in the 1600 block N 15th St. The suspect attempted to elude the officer but was quickly taken into custody. As officers continued to investigate the theft with the assistance of investigators, it was determined that the suspect taken into custody for the theft at 2007 N 15th St., was the same suspect from the robbery that had occurred at 3327 5th Ave. S.

As a result of the investigation thus far, 20‐year‐old Christafer T. Perez (pictured at top) of Fort Dodge has been arrested and charged with the following:

• Robbery in the Second Degree (C Felony)

• Theft in the Fifth Degree (Simple Misdemeanor)

• Interference with Official Acts (Simple Misdemeanor)

• Theft 5th (Simple Misdemeanor)

• Possession Drug Paraphernalia (Simple Misdemeanor)

Perez is being held in the Webster County Jail.  He faces an arraignment hearing on November 12.
