CEDAR FALLS – UNI men’s basketball has announced a two-year home-and-home series with the Wichita State Shockers set to begin this fall.

The Panthers will visit the Shockers this upcoming season on Nov. 14, 2024 at Charles Koch Arena in Kansas, before hosting Wichita State in the McLeod Center on Dec. 6, 2025.

The series will mark the renewal of a longstanding rivalry between the two programs which dates back to the late 1970s. Both the Panthers and Shockers were fierce Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) rivals from UNI’s entry into the league in 1991-92 until Wichita State’s departure from the conference for the American Athletic Conference in 2017.

The all-time series record between the two programs is knotted up at 28 wins a piece, with UNI recording a number of notable victories over the black and yellow, including a 2016 MVC Tournament semifinal win over the then-25th ranked Shockers in St. Louis, as well as a victory over the No. 12 Shockers at home on Jan. 31, 2015.

Wichita State returns seven letterwinners and three starters from a season ago that saw the Shockers go 15-19 overall and 5-13 in conference play under first year head coach Paul Mills.

Northern Iowa’s full non-conference schedule will be announced at a later date.
