United Way to feed more school kids

MASON CITY, IOWA – United Way of North Central Iowa is expanding Backpack Buddies to feed students in five additional elementary schools. Backpack Buddies currently provides meals to food insecure students in nine north central Iowa schools. Children receive sacks of nutritional and kid friendly food to take home on the weekends.

Backpack Buddies provides food to elementary schools with the highest free or reduced meal program percentages. The program will now feed students in the following schools:

Backpack Buddies is currently feeding 235 students each week in the following schools:

Harding Elementary, Mason City
Hoover Elementary, Mason City
LuVerne Elementary, LuVerne
North Kossuth, Swea City
Northside Elementary, Hampton
Roosevelt Elementary, Mason City
Sentral Elementary, Fenton
Southside Elementary, Hampton
Titonka Elementary, Titonka

United Way has invited community members to join the ‘One Campaign.’ One month. One goal. One hundred children. Please help us expand Backpack Buddies in the month of January to feed 100 additional children across north central Iowa elementary schools. A student can receive food on the weekends during the entire school year for only $155. Your investment can go to the elementary school of your choice in United Way’s nine county region.
