MASON CITY – An elderly man drove his car into the front door of the Mason City Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant Friday afternoon and was taken away in an ambulance.
Police and emergency responders went to the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant, 1615 4th Street SW, Friday at about 1:40 after a report of an elderly man who had driven his sedan through the main entrance to the establishment. A bystander told NIT that a loud “crash” was heard and the car continued to run after it hit the door.
At the scene, paramedics helped the older driver of the car out of the vehicle and sat him down on a stretcher for a trip by ambulance to Mercy Hospital. The door into the restaurant was totally blocked by what appeared to be a silver Chevy Malibu. The driver appeared to be woozy but not seriously hurt. Police talked with employees outside and tried to determine how best to get the car out of the way so more chicken could be served to patrons waiting in the parking lot. The name of the driver was not yet made available.
