PLYMOUTH — James Donald “Jim” Sivwright, 81, of Plymouth, died Saturday, July 11, 2026, at his home, leaving behind a legacy shaped by hard work, rural life, family and a generous spirit.
A funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, 202 N. Hawkeye Avenue in Nora Springs. Pastor Lumiere Kapend will officiate.
Born December 18, 1944, in Mason City, Jim was the son of Donald and Charleen Haight Sivwright. Following high school, he continued his education at North Iowa Junior College.
Jim married Marlene Clay on August 4, 1973. They shared nearly 53 years of marriage and raised two children, Cory and Kim.
According to his obituary, Jim devoted his working years to farming and raising hogs. His career reflected his strong work ethic and affection for the land and rural way of life. Although he retired in 2016, he remained active and continued pursuing the interests that brought him happiness.
Gardening became one of Jim’s favorite activities. He raised tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, potatoes and pumpkins, frequently sharing what he grew with relatives, friends, neighbors and the local food pantry.
His generosity extended beyond the garden. The obituary portrays Jim as a friendly man who could strike up a conversation with nearly anyone. He possessed an impressive knowledge of the surrounding counties and the people living throughout the area, and he was rarely without a story to share.
Jim enjoyed mowing, attending farm auctions and threshing shows, listening to bluegrass music and watching live bands perform. He was also known for enjoying desserts and rarely turning down something sweet.
Family remained at the center of his life. He especially treasured time with his grandchildren, including giving them tractor rides and allowing them to experience the farm that had meant so much to him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marlene; children, Cory Sivwright and Kim and Bryan Bergstreser; grandchildren, Maddie, Ryan, Lauren, Carson and Kendal; sister, Bev West; brothers- and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank or One Vision in Clear Lake.
