MITCHELL COUNTY — A Northern Iowa woman was airlifted to Mayo Clinic in Rochester with life-threatening injuries after a vehicle left a rural road, struck a culvert and rolled Friday evening.
According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, the crash happened at about 7:55 p.m. on July 11, 2026, near Mitchell Line Street and Foothill Avenue. A 2018 MAHI Roxor driven by 34-year-old Joseph Smith of Mason City was traveling westbound on Mitchell Line Street when the vehicle moved over for an oncoming vehicle.
The patrol says the Roxor’s passenger-side tires went off the roadway before the vehicle struck a culvert and rolled onto its side.
Both occupants were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected, according to the report. A passenger, 53-year-old Billi Dodge of Rock Falls, was pinned under the vehicle.
Dodge was transported by MercyOne Air to Mayo Clinic in Rochester with life-threatening injuries.
The vehicle was towed by Lake Towing.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Trooper Thompson investigated the crash. The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office and Floyd County authorities assisted at the scene.
