Cayleigh L. Pepper left this world June 22, 2024 wrapped in the arms of her family. Her battle was hard fought and her heart fierce. She filled 14.5 years of life to the brim with love, stubbornness and laughter.
We will gather and celebrate her life 10:00am Monday, July 1, 2024 at First Lutheran Church, 309 9th St N, Northwood, IA with Rev. Becky Sogge officiating.
Visitation and viewing will take place from 4:00pm to 6:00pm Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 1st Ave. South, Northwood, IA 50459. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the church.
Following the services cremation rites will be held and she will rest with her family.
Memorials may be directed in care of Cayleigh’s family.
Cayleigh Lynn was born on September 28, 2009, in Omaha, NE, the eldest child of Christina Lynn Pepper. She spent her early years in Omaha, attending Westbrook Elementary School. She was blessed with three younger siblings, Brody, Evelynn “Evie,” and Hunter, whom she adored and took care of diligently. After moving to Northwood in 2021, Cayleigh attended Northwood-Kensett Middle School and had just completed the 8th grade. She had a natural talent for numbers and loved math class. Her creativity blossomed in her art and writing, showcasing another beautiful side of her.
Though Cayleigh could sometimes appear bossy or annoyed with them, her love for her siblings was profound. She delighted in teaching and guiding them, and she had a knack for making even the most mundane moments fun. Her dogs, Pebbles and Cocoa, and her cats brought her immense joy, reflecting her deep love for animals, often choosing their company over humans.
In March 2023, Cayleigh was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a battle she faced with unwavering determination. Despite the countless scans, doctor appointments, surgeries, and the rollercoaster of hopeful and devastating news, Cayleigh and her family remained resilient, finding humor even in the darkest times. Throughout her journey, her family met wonderful nurses, doctors, and supporters who became like a second family, always standing by their side and lifting them up.
Cayleigh’s unyielding spirit shone through even in the face of adversity. Fortnite and music were a helpful escape. During her treatments she looked forward to spending time with her mom, whether they were playing board games, coloring, doing crafts, reading or playing cards, especially UNO. She cherished visits from her family, friends and neighbors. Cayleigh was excited to work at the pool this summer and looked forward to starting high school. Her Jordans and dress were ready for prom. She dreamed of traveling the country, skydiving, visiting paranormal locations, and enjoying more sunsets and moments with loved ones.
Although Cayleigh’s time was cut short, her presence can be felt everywhere: in the changing colors of the sunrise and sunset, the rainbow after the rain, the butterfly on the window sill, and the twinkling stars at night. If you know where to look, you might just see her.
Blessed to have shared this life with her are her parents, Christina and Chris Stromley of Northwood; siblings, Brody, Evelynn and Hunter; boyfriend, Gabe Thompson; uncle, Ed Pepper; cousins, Jessica and Janel Pepper; godmother, Dani Gentz; grandma, Brenda Gentz; aunt, Chelsea Stromley; cherished friends, guardians, family friends and everyone that walked beside them along the way.
Greeting her in heaven are her grandma, Cyndie Pepper; maternal great-grandparents, Melvin & Vaneda Pepper; as well as many extended relatives.
